"Pretty Little Liars" offered a Halloween special that was in part a prequel to the spinoff series "Ravenswood." While the "PLL" gang was hanging out in the town of Ravenswood, Hanna's main man Caleb was on his way there, too. En route, he met Miranda, a girl who's headed to find her uncle -- and last living relative -- in the town.
In the premiere episode, Caleb and Miranda had decided to stay in Ravenswood after seeing their names and faces on tombstones in the town cemetery. They started looking into this mystery, and in doing so they met three other teens. They also faced supernatural entities in Miranda's uncle's home.
Miranda saw a watery ghost behind a curtain, while Caleb was literally attacked in the bathtub. Apparently, the town is cursed ... for real. While "PLL" is dark, it's not supernatural, but it looks like this sister show is going to delve into the supernatural as a real thing in Ravenswood.
The kids have to survive the episode's ending, first. In the closing moments, the ghost appeared on the road in front of them, causing the teens to fly off the road and into the water. As we faded to black, they were all trapped underwater in their car with no indications that they were getting out.
Of course, they will get out -- it's just a matter of how. Series creator Marlene King promised viewers a "really awesome" and "compelling" story. She told E! Online that the kids were drawn together for a reason; that they're "strangers when they meet in the first episode. But very quickly they realize they have to work together to overcome this curse that is haunting them."
Entertainment Weekly's Samantha Highfill was impressed with the premiere, calling it a PG version of "American Horror Story" -- and that's a good thing.
Just in time for Halloween, the spooks in "Ravenswood" are just getting started, Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.
