'I liked Roald Dahl's descriptions because he made the characters come to life and it felt like I knew them'
Esio Trot by Roald Dahl tells the story two people who are both lonely - a man called Mr Hoppy, his neighbour, a lady called Mrs Silver and Mrs Silver's special tortoise called Alfie.
The story has many important messages. It shows that it is good to try and find people around you that like the same things. Roald Dahl shows through the friendship of Mr Hoppy and Mrs Silver that it is important to have friends with the same interests as you. When they learn that they both share an interest in Alfie, they realize that teamwork and co-operation helps them to get further.
When people work together they have two people thinking instead of one and so their ideas are often better. They work together when Mrs Silver wants Alfie to grow and Mr Hoppy helps her to achieve this goal.
I liked Roald Dahl's descriptions because he made the characters come to life and it felt like I knew them. I really liked Alfie. Even though he was a small animal, he helped to bring together two adults. I love animals so it was nice to not only have humans in a story.
The way that this book ended was really good. It had the type of ending I like most. I would recommend Esio Trot for children between the ages of 6 to 10. I think they would really enjoy this book. It would suit anybody who likes stories with or about animals and friendship.
