1. The "First book award: 10th book" competition (the "Competition"), allows nominations from readers for the Guardian first book award. Publishers must submit books for consideration as a standard submission.
2. To nominate a book for the competition, please submit a valid nomination in the comments section on the associated article with the word "nomination" included in the comment.
3. By nominating a book in the Competition you are accepting these terms and conditions.
4. You are responsible for any cost of sending your nomination to us.
5. Only one valid nomination is permitted per person and if you change your mind about what that nomination should be, we reserve the right to miss the post where you change your mind.
6. All initial nominations must be received by midnight on 13 July 2014. Nominations received after that date and time will not be considered for the prize.
7. For the purposes of this definition, first book means first printed production in book form of any type or genre.
8. The book must be published between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2015.
9. Books entered must have a registered ISBN number or equivalent.
10. The following publications are not eligible: academic, reference, guide books, children's, educational, manuals, reprints, and television, radio and film tie-ins.
11. Jointly-authored short story or essay collections with more than three contributors are not eligible.
12. The award is open to books in translation. The book must be published in English in this calendar year, and no more than five years must have elapsed since publication in the original language.
13. The Guardian first book award is not open to employees of Guardian News and Media.
14. The books team will select the 10th title from these nominations. Our decision is final.
15. Although you can only nominate one book, you can join the discussion on as many as you like.
16. The 10th title will be announced at the end of July 2014.
17. The Competition will be governed by English law.
