'I have recommended this book a lot over the last few weeks and I will be doing so for a long time as it is just too good not to talk about and share'

On the surface, the Savages are a seemingly normal family. Mum, Dad, Sasha (teenage daughter), Ivan (young son) and Grandpa (their Dad's Dad.) Behind the doors of their immaculate home, the family have a dark and disturbing secret which they guard very carefully. Every now and then the family enjoy a strange feast with an unusual meat as the focus of the celebration. In fact their whole lives centre around expertly prepared food and their weird diet...

The family are very close but their perfect life starts to unravel when Sasha meets and falls in love with a boy at school. He is a vegetarian – something her Father sees as the lowest of the low. Sasha wants to introduce him to her family and the closeness she and her Father share is put to the test when Sasha is convinced by her boyfriend to give vegetarianism a try. Meanwhile the Savages are bothered by a nosy and determined journalist who will stop at nothing to find out about this unusual family and Ivan's wicked and weird sense of humour. When a tragedy occurs in the house the family secret is in serious danger of being exposed.

I loved this book. It was interesting, brilliantly funny and very unique. The best thing about it is how ordinary the story seems to be while at the same time you are aware all along of how sinister and dark the family secret is, yet you find yourself being okay with it because you like the family so much! The author absolutely draws you into their lives and the characters are fantastic. I loved Ivan as he is the creepiest, most evil little boy I have ever read about. I have recommended this book a lot over the last few weeks since reading it and I will be doing so for a long time as it is just too good not to talk about and share!
