Dobby the house elf was freed back in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." But in the Leavesden's Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London, he's unfortunately still encased in glass.
Local "Harry Potter" fans, however, have been trying to liberate the character by leaving socks by his display. (In case you've been sleeping on cultural phenomenon, house elves become free when presented with clothes by their master.)
Hogwarts Logic tweeted out a picture of the effort, which J.K. Rowling retweeted:
Certain Twitter users aren't finding the practice quite so touching, though, for a -- SPOILER ALERT -- depressing yet understandable reason:
With Death Eaters around, socks can only go so far.
H/T Vulture.
