This week we hear from two writers who found inspiration from headline news, though what they did with it could hardly be more different. Ryan Gattis's novel, All Involved, is set over five days of the 1992 LA riots, and provides a gripping street-level account of what happened and to whom.
Sarah Bannan was inspired to write her debut novel, Weightless, by the story of an American teenager who killed herself after falling foul of cyberbullies – a tragedy which sent her back to her own experience as a high school outsider.
