This is a book about a nine year old girls' adventures in school. It's an easy read, about her fears and travails, one of which is something called 'the cloud'.
This cloud happens to be a rotten stink in the bus she takes to and from school. Nobody seems to have any idea of the source of this stink, but it smells really awful, like cats' poop – all kinds of poop. And rotten eggs, dead chickens and dead rats.
Clementine finally unravels the mystery of the stink.
The book also has a bit about Backster, a troublesome kid who is here for a few days. Backster plays a role in entertaining his classmates by mixing up the teachers' coats and books. He does this with shoes as well. Although they don't like him at first, the kids do miss him when he leaves.
I finished this book at one go, so it may be a little too easy if you are into serious reading, or are a fast reader. But it's a good read.
