Michael Gordon Gives Helpful Advice to Alzheimer Patients’ Families

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 | 4:01 AM

TORONTO (PRWEB) June 26, 2013 - Celebrated doctor, Michael Gordon, has seen his fair share of dementia patients, but he never expected to see it in his own family. His professional and personal experience with Alzheimer’s disease inspired his new book, “Late-Stage Dementia: Promoting Comfort, Compassion and Care” (published by iUniverse).

“Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias eventually lead to death, often after a fairly long period of gradual decline in mental and physical function,” explains Gordon. “Dealing with this end of life period can be very challenging to family members. This book gives guidance to families and professional care-givers about all the difficult, challenging and often heart-wrenching decisions that have to be made.”

Gordon believes that communication is vital to making the best decisions when dealing with a dementia patient or family member. He knows from experience the pain, hopelessness and loneliness that relatives and care-givers often experience. The book provides valuable knowledge and principles to help readers feel less like they’re facing these difficult challenges alone.

He writes, “With a number of elders suffering from dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, the impact on their families is a major societal and family issue in North America.”
