In this week's podcast we look at how horror is stalking the world of fiction. We talk to the South African science fiction star Lauren Beukes, whose latest novel, The Shining Girls, combines the two genres in the story of a time-travelling serial killer.
We also meet Joe Hill, son of horror legend Stephen King, who pays tribute to one of the genre's most celebrated monsters with the number plate of his villain's Silver Wraith Rolls Royce: NOS4R2. He explains how the genre has changed over the decades, why he couldn't resist following in his father's footsteps, and why he felt compelled to write under a different name.
We also examine the thrills and calamities which result when writers of literary fiction turn to horror.
