The celebrated Australian novelist Peter Carey has politely criticised the decision to expand this year's Man Booker prize for the first time to US writers. Carey - who has won the Booker twice himself - says that the award's 'particular cultural flavour' has now been lost. Carey says it is 'unthinkable' that US judges would ever reciprocate by opening up the Pulitzer prize to Brits or Australians.
