Evie Wyld on 'the anger and frustration of being a woman'

The British-Australian writer talks about winning the Miles Franklin and how the literary world is rife with sexism


Evie Wyld has been up since 3am. The British-Australian novelist is jet-lagged but you wouldnt know it from the sound of her voice. I got in the day before yesterday and Ive had trouble sleeping, she says down the telephone line. Just too much excitement.


Her second novel All the Birds, Singing, won the 2014 Miles Franklin award the night before, but instead of celebrating she was in bed only a few hours after the ceremony concluded. Im pregnant. So there was no knocking back of vodka for me. Its a bad year to be pregnant I suppose. I went to Cafe Sydney with my editor and we had a quiet glass of champagne and just giggled a lot.
