'I quite liked this book but I think it could have been a bit shorter as some bits seemed to drag for me'

One fateful night Emily sees her Father walk out of the woods behind their house carrying a dead teenage girl in his arms. Ashlee was a girl from Emily's school and her Father is now accused of her murder. Emily is shunned at school by a lot of her friends and starts having contact with Damon, Ashlee's boyfriend.

Emily is convinced that her Father could not have done such a thing and sets out to prove his innocence, but her life soon starts to spiral out of control.

Her Mother starts drinking as she finds it increasingly harder to cope with the accusations against her husband and shuts Emily out completely. As Emily starts to spend more time with Damon she discovers that several of the teenagers from her school share a secret concerning what goes on in the woods after dark... Emily does not know who to trust anymore and the story builds towards a terrifying conclusion.

I quite liked this book but I think it could have been a bit shorter as some bits seemed to drag for me. It was fairly intriguing and creepy and some bits were really descriptive and atmospheric. I liked Joe's character a lot and loved the way he cared so much about Emily, believing in her Father's innocence and helping her try to prove this. I could not stand Damon as he annoyed me from the very start. I thought he was very obnoxious and weak. In fact reading his passages really started to annoy me towards the end.

I will have to be careful when recommending this as it is definitely not for a younger audience because of the content but I definitely have not read anything quite like it before.
