'This book was beyond captivating!'
This book was beyond captivating! The fantastic plot and mysterious characters are why The Prince of Mist is one of my all-time favourite books.
In 1943, Max Carver's father, a watchmaker and inventor, decides to move his family to an abandoned house next to the sea. Beyond the house Max finds an overgrown garden protected by a metal fence, and on its every spike a six-pointed star. Inside the mysterious garden is a collection of statues laid out in a six-pointed star formation.
For a while Max forgets about this and his family slowly settles into the village. Until Alicia tells him about strange dreams involving a clown statue and a fenced garden. Then strange and unpleasant occurrences make Max and his sister Alicia uneasy, and with their new friend Roland they discover more about the wreck of a boat that sank in a dreadful storm many years ago. Every person travelling on the boat perished – apart from one person, Roland's grandfather.
As secrets slip out and stories uncurl the children realise they are dealing with much more than just a nightmare.
My favourite character is Irina, Max and Alicia's little sister, as she always wants to join in and thinks she can do everything the big kids do.
I would recommend this book to teenagers, as some of the scenes and characters are a bit on the scary side. I did find myself jumping at certain parts! If you love horror, reading this book is a necessity.
