Smith spent his 32-year teaching career assisting students in mastering algebra. Smith hopes to encourage students to build strong algebraic foundations, which are prerequisites for proficiency in more advanced mathematics in the future high school and college years.

James H. Smith received his B.S. degree in mathematics from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va. Later, he earned a master’s degree in mathematics education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Since retiring from teaching, he continues to tutor students in all areas of mathematics.
