Lacrosse, KS (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 - In her new novel, "Labor of the Heart" (published by iUniverse), Christian author Arlene Warner presents a tale of two young immigrants struggling with faith, hardships and romance.
Katerina Zanonna and Clemente Basetti meet on an immigrant boat in 1893. A few years later, their paths cross in Kansas. "Labor of the Heart" depicts their struggles in a new land, conflicts with each other, their families and within themselves.
An excerpt from "Labor of the Heart":
"He swallowed and looked thoughtful. 'I do not know exactly. I know only what I feel inside when I look at you.' He laid his fork on the plate, took her hand, and gazed into her eyes. 'Katerina, I want many times to be with you. May I speak to your father?'
Katerina gasped. 'No, you must not. I intended to tell you before.' She straightened her back and met his gaze. 'Clemente, I will enter the convent next summer.'
'Convent!' He grabbed the plate and jerked to his feet, allowing his fork to clatter to the floor. 'You cannot do that.'"
Warner knows her book will find ready readers, she says, because it "deals with various problems of immigration. It also delves into the importance of God in our everyday lives, especially in troubled times."
