Bedford’s Sal Spirito and his wife, K, have a way with words – other people’s words, to a large extent. The couple is adept at assisting authors with the publishing and distribution of their books.

K is a longtime author with seven published books to her credit. Her dedication to writing motivated Sal to form their company, A Snowy Day Distribution & Publishing. The business, founded in 2010, stems from their marital partnership of 45 years.

Sal, whose background is in electronics, said he was “perpetually amazed” at his wife’s perseverance in writing books and overcoming all that is entailed in having the works published and marketed. Recalling her efforts, he decided to leave electronics and launch a publishing business focused on books.

Sal and K have assisted many local authors in all aspects of publishing. He interviews candidates with works of fiction, period history, romance, mystery and other genres. She offers editing and grammar advice, along with generous portions of encouragement. The pair establishes a working relationship with the writer. Design, layout, illustration and cover image are discussed.

Most recently, the couple is assisting two teenage authors, Emily K. Murphy, 16, of Merrimack, who attends Trinity High School in Manchester, and Mary Leonarczyk, 17, of Manchester, a friend and a fellow classmate. Emily co-wrote the book, “Mary Hartford,” with Leonarczyk. She also wrote the novel, “Kissimmee’s Newport, 1894.”

K, who said she always has been a history buff, knows the hard work that goes into researching, writing and refining a book.

A college grad who has lived in many cities, K is a member of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project and the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.

“Helping others improve their writing is a very satisfying part of the editing process,” K said. “I enjoy learning new things, which is why research is so much fun.”

A Snowy Day Publishing & Distribution debuted “Mary Hartford,” co-written by Emily and Mary Leonarczyk. Their writing style draws the reader’s attention and demands that more pages be turned.

Sal said he and his wife provide a “one-stop solution,” in helping authors publish their works. He secures a book’s ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and makes the work available as a downloadable e-book. He also guarantees print versions are printed in the United States.

He called the teens’ books, “very professional.”

Sal said he and his wife have struggled over the years with various publishing difficulties related to K’s works, such as quality issues, deadline issues, proofreading and layout problems. However, K’s most recent book, “Summer And August – A Cape Cod Murder Mystery,” was completed start to finish by A Snowy Day Publishing & Distribution. Now, the entire process is under their control.

“I saw clearly that it was possible to give others the benefit of what K and I learned in the past dozen years,” Sal said. “There’s so much that goes on between the submission of a manuscript and its release as a finished book. We make the process easy.”

Among the many other titles A Snowy Day Publishing & Distribution has released are the following by New Hampshire authors: “Mutiny! The Battle of Dong Ha,” by Staff Sgt. Eugene R. DeLalla, of Winchester; “Searching for Saffron,” a novel by Kathryn (Lapierre) Loconte, of Manchester; “Frank’s Sky High Wishes,” by Helen MacEachern, of Exeter, and others.
