SIGNAL HILL, Calif. (PRWEB) January 10, 2013
Inspired by a chaplain’s support of soldiers and life on an Arizona Army post, “Dry Heat: Light & Life on an Arizona Army Post” (published by AuthorHouse) is a collection of free verse poems full of light and love. After 30 years of service with soldiers stateside and overseas, author Tom Decker showcases his experiences in this captivating book of poetry.
Decker’s poems capture the flavor of military service in Fort Huachuca, Ariz., one of the Army’s most unique and historic military installations in the American west. Decker’s writing also highlights the surrounding southwestern Arizona towns and landscapes.
The book’s account of military life before 9/11 describes the congruency of faith and life as well as a humorous and ironic view on the soldiers’ successes and disconnects. Decker’s optimism and subtle humor shine in this unique collection that includes poems featured in publications such as The Lutheran Forum and Fort Huachuca’s newspaper, The Scout.
Praise for “Dry Heat”:
“With engaging gentle irony and dry humor, the crisp poetry of ‘Dry Heat’ transports us into daily life on and off an Army post in a SW Arizona desert. … Chaplain Decker’s pastoral heart and vision reveal the life pulsating under this world of disciplined service and dry heat. It’s a world with constant dangers but also with people of faith who live God’s light and love so foundational for America’s values.”
—Professor Emeritus Hans Spalteholz, Concordia University, Portland, Ore.
