Even though the digital age is in full swing and many companies are seeking out technological innovations, there are still ways to stay ahead of the competition that use physical product. There are some things that online trends can't do, and quality customer service is often one of them. As this blog has previously mentioned, direct mail campaigns, when done right, can have a huge impact on a business.

When companies take the time to design a professional product as well, then consumers will continue to seek out a particular organization. Investing in binding equipment and supplies can hold pages together in a durable fashion, perfect for booklets and pamphlets that need to be sent through the mail. Furthermore, laminating machines can provide documents and photos with the extra protection that will keep their appearance polished.

Predictions for 2013

An important thing for all businesses in the printing industry to keep in mind is that in order to stay ahead of the competition, they will need to make smart investments. Whether it's partnering with the right companies or using the best equipment for their products, partnerships are key.

According to a recent blog post in Digital Book World, mergers and acquisitions are one of the major predictions for next year in printing and publishing.

"What's happening with Penguin and Random House is just the beginning," James McQuivey, Ph.D. and principal analyst at Forrester who covers the book industry, told the source. "I just look to other industries. At one point in the music business there was the big six, then it was five then it was four and now it’s three and a half."

Additionally, the source said that e-reader prices are likely to decrease, while overall, more individuals will own one of those pieces of technology. Even so, companies can still ensure their futures with a combination of both worlds.
